Hardcode
looks like no. it always mentions the "[first configured] swap device"
Hardcode
and yup, dumpdev always points on one.
Hardcode
thanks.
Mikhail
Hardcode
tbh never used textdumps. developers always request a bt or a compressed minidump on http://bugs.freebsd.org. from my experience, attaching a link to a kernel dump makes the PR like several times more attractive.
Hardcode
furthermore, I have a bounty agreement with trasz@, so in case it's the ctld which crashes, - yeah, I need mindump I guess. he needs it usually.
Mikhail
what is your PR?
Hardcode
so far there's none, I'm investigating latest crash
Hardcode
it's already known a SAN couldn't savecore onto a single device
Hardcode
I'm thinking about geom_stripe
Hardcode
(it it capable of savecoring onto gstripe ?)
Mikhail
storage layer is not my cup of tea )
if you have server infrastructure & good NIC, use netdump
Mikhail
IMHO netdump was designed for servers.
Hardcode
ae@ just told me it's kinda from 13.x. is 12.x capable of netdumping ?

Hi folks. Is anybody aware of what the latest Apple M1 and F14 chips implies for the *BSD's ? Aren't there more or less explicit wishes to get the BSD's running on that architecture ?
Sylvain
The rumor has it going that several of the FBSD devs are using Macintosh computers, in relation to there being mutual code... as well as from the GNU Mach modular kernel.
Hardcode
FreeBSD isn't running well on a huge variety of archs, so I guess M1 will just be put in the end of this long line, lol

That's so cool!

I shared it in @worldwideBSD. Only 20 subscribers so far.

There is a red hat certification, is there any similar for FreeBSD?
Hardcode
sure. a source tree commit bit. preferably with kernel specialization.

Why not speak Russian in the Russian FreeBSD/NomadBSD-groups?
Mikhail
Mikhail
You were maybe banned for there - or I'll be banned for legitimate question?
🧐
Not you, definitely. I saw messages in rus-chats about banned newbies who asks silly questions. For instance, "is bsd better than Linux?" or "what is bsd better for me than xyz?".
A lot of committers/developers & experienced users use rus-chat for discussions, so it's quite easy to be banned by silly questions.

Let them ban whoever they want in their superior elite groups.

FreeBSD 13.0-BETA1 Released With WireGuard, Updated ZFS, NUMA Optimizations
FreeBSD 13.0-RELEASE is aiming to debut before the end of March and there is good chances of that with the FreeBSD 13.0 release process so far being on schedule. With that, this weekend marks the availability of FreeBSD 13.0-BETA1...
Hardcode
what does they mean by "significant numa optimizations ?" last time I checked FreeBSD Numa support was on the level "kernel knows there's something called numa, may be even about domains, but has no idea what to do with all this stuff"
Hardcode
has that changed lately ?
Hardcode
so it's still there
Hardcode
still no numactl or something similar
Hardcode
prehistoric cpuset lol

how calculate plops in my CPU?
