I really liked the last one. I was going to buy it, but then it all went downhill, so I figured I shouldn't.

HP Elite is officially last Wnphone device, in 2019, support will end
Yeah, that was a bit sad IMHO. One last push and though it did alright, it's still sad.

Search button was one of the most genius thing in all phones history

Made a whole button for websearching to use it anytime - awesome

IMHO that was one of the biggest FU things in this phone. Android - Search button brings up search in currently opened application; in Windows Phone - opens up BING despite whatever you're doing

Doesn't this actually perform an upgrade?
No, read the manpage - update is linking to upgrade because update is deprecated.

So this doesn't update packages, just the repo/source list?

In my 520, search button was not a problem like your button, and there was no Bing but Yandex, which was nice for me

Sounds better, but now imagine you're pushing the button by accident all the time, and it brings up Bing. You'd hate it after one day ?

that was my experience, and it's just a tip of an iceberg of my annoyances with this phone, which wasn't even so much low end for windows phones

I was asking if the command you provided actually updates (or upgrades, if that makes you more at ease) the packages themeselves, and not just syncing the list itself.

In other words, the difference between sudo apt update and sudo apt upgrade.

Or as the original topic was... The difference between sudo pacman -Syy and sudo pacman -Syyu

AFAIK, running that will actually upgrade packages, not just sync the list, which was the goal.

Tobias?

makecache is apts update

Also why would you just update the lists without then upgrading the packages? or forcing to keep the current lists with --cache-only instead of downloading them if new? :P

I don't think it'll ever be the year of the Linux desktop just because of how it's implemented, and the difficulties justifying feature sacrifices for ideological reasons.

Nah, shouldn't be. Unless you set it that way in purpose...

Can you boot into other Linux live ISOs? Try rewriting the contents of the flash drive, maybe.

TLP, powertop, for starters. Plus, you can do the usual, dim brightness, kill/ close unnecessary apps/ tabs, not have unnecessary stuff running in the background.

I don't think it too, but in reality i was just joking...at the same time anyway i think in the end anyone can use a distro like Korora without any technical knowledge at all nor ideological reason, and with a very little learning curve you can use fedora too, even without all the principles that fedora advocates...just my 5c anyway :)

"Another frustrating aspect of Linux is that the kernel can fully support a 4096-processor supercomputer, but a laptop can have difficulties waking up from sleep."
