There is no fining, this is friggin open source! No one of them works for money coming from Linux itself. I accept that the ones working for sanctioned companies are delisted, but this does not change the fact that his first reply was all others are idiots and pro Russian or whatever. He is just a stupid asshole
Chungy
There can be fining. The Linux Foundation owns the copyright and Linus Torvalds is on the board. He's directly financially responsible if the DoJ decides to pursue it.
Chungy
I would say it's likely Trump undoes the order when he's sworn in, but that's not until January 20.

Open source doesn't mean no legal obligations, they the linux foundation can very much be fined for violating sanctions put in place by the goverment of the jurisdiction it's in
Daniel "TheReimi"
They can be fined if they have active business relationships. There is no violated sanction if ppl code for your project for free.

The problem is that it looks like he is enjoying it

*this. Also, he could have managed the thing in a more decent way. Well, now the damage is done. I hope those devs will consider switching to other projects (and i already told my 2 favorites, i really hope for this)

They do and it wasn't for free. Besides, "free" doesn't even matter for the executive order.
Tobiyo

The foundation is a still a legal entity that has to comply to the law. Not complying result in.....fines :p
Tobiyo
Also it's about being a "maintainer" not about being able to contribute code.
Tobiyo
There are contributors and maintainers ;)
Chungy
In December when the executive order goes into effect, it will become illegal for an US company (eg: The Linux Foundation) to accept software development from Russians
Chungy
given the lame duck administration, it's a toss up whether any enforcement will happen and if Trump wins, likely the order will be repealed
João Paulo

It depends on the text of the law. It can define that even donations can subject the Linux Foundation to fines. A donation doesn't necessarily is money, it can be work.

Or maybe it won't be repelled. When Biden won, he didn't revert Trump's Executive Orders making the life of immigrants more difficult, even if Biden alleges he is pro immigration.

Hello 2
Superboy🐱‍💻
So this place is about react os only or anything about computing ?
Stas'M
ReactOS only
Mike
Hello, the 1st one edit: i hate being dyslexic, sorry! (just reactos)
Superboy🐱‍💻
So when reactos gets enough stability for VM usage?
Chungy
when time stops
Superboy🐱‍💻
Mike
So when reactos gets enough stability for VM usage?
it depends on your concept of stability and vm usage
Mike
if all you want to do is playing dos games and the good old solitaire, it's fine
Eris
some of the older crazy chicken games work fine, at least the early jump'n'run ones
Tony
I recently played StarCraft on a ROS VM with sound and I had only one small issue
Superboy🐱‍💻
it depends on your concept of stability and vm usage
When i restart reactos by reactos it won't boot again
Superboy🐱‍💻
And also doesn't work on vbox
Eris
nightly build or current release?

Very nice, but also very breakable. One update explodes all the work. At the risk of being pedantic, the only way to achieve these visuals with stability and security (without breaking the self updating mechanism) is through ReactOS.

You are entirely correct, that is the folly of all kinds of Windows modifications. Even in the best of circumstances, they're very incompatible and broken compared to the unmodified version. And almost always incapable of receiving Windows updates without breaking the entire OS.... and this one in particular, modifying Windows 10 so close to its end of life. I don't know why they aren't doing it to Windows 11 instead, but all the other problems would exist even then. Microsoft just doesn't give you a real choice over your desktop.
Chungy

apparently one of the only guys that can actually read, though xD Right at the beginning: "Apparently a clone of Windows Server 2003" I've seen people call it all kinds of other things.... 3.1, 95, 98, 2000, XP.... at least the last two kind of make sense, but come on, the website even says Server 2003. It's not that hard to get it right. :P

For a dyslexic like me, it was gold. Also, wtf, when android, ios and windows 10 announced the black theme that made me laugh, in the 90s we had and used them normally

Too much details that can go wrong in the hands of inexperienced people. Microsoft is dumbfying Windows.
Chungy
Haven't watched, but this guy was a developer at Microsoft and generally makes good stuff.... (as long as he doesn't claim the start menu banner was dynamically rendered or the FAT32 volume limit is because of a GUI dialog) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gf-dwrwVcMs

*this. Old windows versions had a great paper manual and also a training program with a simulated environment to learn basic pc use (or at least my compaq had)

FreeBSD is being hostage of abusers who use its code and don't give back to the source 😅
