greatest benefit of the doubt: it might have started as a GDI thing in early development, and there's some logic behind it for localization support, but none of the released builds all the way through Vista do that. Bitmaps all the way.

Chen and Plummer have repeated the claim that a 64-bit version never got working or shipped. A broken port was in XP IA-64, but a fully functional game exists in XP x64.

It's far more likely that Vista doesn't have Pinball because they didn't want to spend resources on refreshing all those graphics into the new style (see how all the other old games got a graphics overhaul).

I still don't think there's malice behind the inaccurate historical claims. Talking about things 20-30 years past can be difficult, but they've been shown the counter evidence in some of these stories but never alter the story.

It's just weird things he chooses to tell, and repeats them often, that can be either debunked or at least put into a dubious claim category by available evidence (namely: shipped copies of Windows)

you're not going to get smaller clusters with FAT32 over 32GiB

exFAT defaults to large clusters because it's optimized for SD cards first, but you can do 4K clusters on a 160GB volume just fine anyway

I've heard horror stories about Mac OS's exFAT driver being bad and corrupting the FS if you try storing >4GiB files on it, so I guess be aware if you have Apple computers. Otherwise it's rock solid on Windows and Linux.

Apple wrote their driver even before that, under license from MS. Still, Apple's shitty driver is Apple's fault.

having used multiple winamp skins with zero issues, I'll put that into doubt

- questionably weird mini visualizer (line drawing is off, solid mode draws gradient instead of going by the amplitude value, spectrum analyzer is logarithmic in amplitude scale) - no leading zeros by default (determined by an audacious setting) - clutter bar is always invisible, doesn't even show the current status (like AOT or double size) - songticker shows dashes instead of *** for long titles - visualizer for some reason doesnt cycle through its modes when clicked on

you can call me a bit of a purist if you want to but i believe a program offering a winamp skin mode should at the very least follow the established spec as best it can

the skin mode basically is just what was inherited from XMMS. There's very little intention to replicate all Winamp behaviors :P

i doubt xmms was that bad too
