<hbelusca (Gmunu=8PiG/c4Tmunu+)> In all cases you need to recompile freeldr afterwards.

<hbelusca (Gmunu=8PiG/c4Tmunu+)> cc Windoz too ^

https://youtu.be/q3Soj5-ULRs Well is this a VLC thing, or system scheduler or other parts of the OS? 😂

Sound is intermittent but as long as I scrub the mouse through the progress bar (VLC has a floating indicator shows the timecode the cursor hovered on the progress bar) music will be played normally

UPVOTE ReactOS sees major update – MM and CC, PnP, I/O, KMDF, NTFS, compiler upgrades https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=26075670
Chungy
Pushing the limits... doesn't seem it will boot on a 2047GiB disk anymore :D
Chungy
anything >1024GiB even. Just tried 1025G, no go. Exactly 1024G, boots fine.

Regarding the 0.4.14 situation, I wonder if ReactOS Deutschland could provide a reward of 0.001 BTC (~43 USD) per regression bugfix. This would provide an additional boost either for new volunteers to join in or for the usual ones to get an additional pay. Seeing as ReactOS' Bitcoin wallet currently has about 4 BTC (~170,000 USD) it would mean a cost of 0.1 BTC (~4300 USD). I don't know if that's too much and who decides that.
Chungy
Just doing a whole disk. Can I even make a partition less than the whole disk via the ReactOS installer? I actually don't know off hand.
Chungy
Not quite the nicest way to enter a size, but it works :D
Chungy
1TiB partition on a 2TiB disk: works
Nahuel
Nahuel
I feel something diferent
Chungy
Change to 1048577MiB: doesn't boot
Chungy
the 1TiB mark is apparently some hard limit at least with FAT. Didn't used to be this way (pre-MM?) btrfs still doesn't work, as has been the case for ~3 months or so
Chungy
New design for the installer?
same design it's had for ages.
Chungy
I usually just hit <ENTER> through it all so I didn't quite know if custom partition sizes was an option :P
Mike

Iirc, fat32 limit was 2 tb. I have windows 98 manual at my parents' home, I could have a look when I manage to go there
Chungy
yeah Win9x had a 2TiB limit on it. I made a Windows 95 VM once with a 2TiB system volume just because I could. :P
Chungy
It's not especially difficult to make FAT go beyond the conventional limits, Linux supports at least up to 256K clusters and 16TiB FAT32 volumes Windows NT used to allow 64K clusters on FAT16 to go up to 4GiB volumes with it. Dunno if it ever supported such on FAT32.
Chungy
Honestly exFAT is far superior to trying to wedge FAT into such volume sizes. It'd be interesting if ReactOS one day has an exFAT install option :p

The main problem with fat32 and large partitions was a lot of wasted space. Even at 32 GB, it started using 32 kB clusters. So huge clusters meant that winamp 2.xx + milkdrop passed from around 10 to 40 used MB
Chungy
Yeah, that's where exFAT has a nice advantage in.
Chungy
hmm. PCem got Pentium 2 emulation... ReactOS is actually working on it. Though I can only describe the experience as "glacial" compared to my usual snappy qemu testing xD

Someone tips off Phoronix?

About our latest blog post.
BieHDC
he will notice soon enough

Mentioned him on Twitter but no result still.

that just proves that he is a human in the end and not a robot as many suspect

He could be a replicant 🤪

I'm idly wondering what will happen if I try to install ReactOS on top of a Windows Me system. ... it'll probably break Windows Me. To science!
Chungy
I don't even know what should happen with Program Files. Probably the only real conflict.
Chungy
I suppose it's hard to get much worse :D
Chungy
A+
Petrus
I expected a BSOD
Chungy
eh, the exe is just not compatible with 9x :P
Petrus
Execute it with backwards compatibility, do it for the lulz
Chungy
you don't... just force an exe to be compatible...
BieHDC
the welcome doesnt let you install anyway
Petrus
Aw, yeah, it's not backwards compatibility, but the opposite 😅
Chungy
haha ReactOS knows enough to display the custom icon on a folder, I assume a desktop.ini file.
Chungy
Chungy
Windows still boots and I'm impressed by that xD
Chungy
naturally
Chungy
haha :p
Chungy
also being a VM, trivial to roll a snapshot back to before I messed with it :D
Vince
Hey small question What's the best way to install ReactOS (on real hardware) without burning a CD every time?
Vince
USB (either Ramdisk, or dd / syslinux with nightly build)
I tried the ramdisk method some times ago but the install freezed everytime at the bootloader installation :/
Harrison

Have you waited for some time? It took up to 3 minutes for me once before.

it was a joke

not quite like that. It can restrict CPU features anyway.
Chungy
PCem is more focused on a low-level emulation of the old systems, with all the hardware surrounding Pentium 2 too
Chungy
and at the exact speed :p

<hbelusca (Gmunu=8PiG/c4Tmunu+)> 🙂

I wonder if ReactOS on Pentium Pro works... I believe that's actually the first i686.
