the thing is, ReactOS don't have to deal with libraries. neither any modular kernel. unlike Linux abomination, Haiku and zCore are like windows core, all your development enviroment and build tools fit in any folder on your drive, thanks to environment variables. being windows like, comes the complete Wine User Space in your usb drive and you simply plug it in
Petrus
but "normal users" use UEFI as default, on laptops and gamer/edition PCs
Most of them, including developers and power users, don't know how to setup UEFI. They are too lazy. Do the test. Almost everybody who says "X is good" had someone other setup it for him/her.

It's like a guy paying for sex and saying he seduced that girl
dairyhungWL🇦🇷
all linux user space and some internals, suck so much that rCore and zCore spits rewritting an x9999 better consistent tiny kernel
dairyhungWL🇦🇷
definitely directxlib.dll should be reimplemented to use Mesa 3D, what else that mean?
dairyhungWL🇦🇷
wayland compositor could use it
dairyhungWL🇦🇷
wine redirect dx calls to gallium drivers providing NT ring0 syscalls and managing buffers on POSIX. but thats no portable, so with NTDLL runtime emulation ANY kernel will be able to run directx programs
dairyhungWL🇦🇷
wait, ring0 NT API! they used ReactOS for gallium nine
Júlio Cesar
hey guys, are there any steam game that runs on react OS? or some vídeo about it?
dairyhungWL🇦🇷
all no conversion compatibility come from reactOS, but its NT 5.2, why? cause was a leak of NT research kernel
dairyhungWL🇦🇷
i don't understand why some photoshop functions are missing in Wine. You have all the linux libraries to manage complex transformations!!
dairyhungWL🇦🇷
wait, i said all linux user space sucks, thats the proof

what am saying, is linux is the wrong place for wine
And what would Linux/POSIX users do for Windows compatibility?
Dee
what am saying, is linux is the wrong place for wine
What? That’s patently false. Wine only exists because of the Linux community. Literally, the Linux community created this project. It was later ported to other platforms.
dairyhungWL🇦🇷
fairly speaking, linux is not lightweight, rather has much crap for useless programming
dairyhungWL🇦🇷
also, Wine efforts should go to GreenTeaOS. that links HEXA language functions to .ASM WIN API syscall header. focus on run exe/dll files and not the crapy NT macrokernel
static

The Linux *kernel* is fairly lightweight, considering the wealth of hardware and driver it supports: from a 68k or a MMU-less microcontroller to 128-core Threadripper/EPYC servers to big mainframes.

stupid question: can programs running on actual version of reactos (0.4.13) use mmx/sse/3dnow/avx, if the cpu supports it?

Wow, I've just installed ROS with BTRFS. It's very very very snappy, even with 128MB of RAM.

Incredibile, the install took 42 seconds (checked with a stopwatch).

I've never achieved to boot a ReactOS installation with btrfs 😥 Which ReactOS version did you use?

New FreePascal release 3.2.0, it would be interesting to have it updated in Software Manager. ftp://ftp.freepascal.org/pub/fpc/dist/3.2.0/i386-win32/
Chungy
kind of shocking to see an ftp server still running
Petrus
It's ok for a repository
Chungy
it's probably ok for a public download service, but http is more common nowadays
Chungy
anyone using ftp over the internet for actual uploads is insane :D
Stas'M
ftp can be opened without a browser from explorer, so it's better 😏
Stas'M
the only downside, sftp is not supported by default
Chungy
heheh. Yeah http doesn't have a standard file listing (web servers tend to just generate an HTML document on the fly for them)
static
the only downside, sftp is not supported by default
Hmmmm looks like a good feature to add
static
Too bad I don't know anything about win32
Chungy
to be fair, FTP doesn't have a standard file listing either, it's just a text stream. There's only around 4 formats in common usage though, so clients tend to just mask away the nasty details
Esteban
FTP is getting deprecated on Chrome though
Stas'M
simply because FTP is not for websites
Chungy
web browsers have supported FTP since the early 1990s, there was a lot of inertia keeping it around.
Chungy
They also supported Gopher back then, and that was largely removed as of ~2006
Chungy
FTP predates the TCP protocol and it has some nasty features from being made without the assumption that full duplex ports exists. it can be utter hell to make it work behind a NAT. HTTP doesn't have problems there.
Chungy
It has some advantages, being a text-based protocol, that it's easy to implement in certain circumstances. Video game console homebrew usually includes an FTP server for file transfers over the LAN. That's probably a fine use.
Chungy
over the internet though... ftp should be as outmoded as things like telnet or pop3
Chungy
ssh (namely, sftp) for uploads. http for downloads. It probably wouldn't even be hard to automatically detect nginx or apache generated file listing pages to make transparent file system browsing of the stuff. That'd cover just about 99% of servers.
Chungy
or bring back WebDAV which was mostly http with a standardized file listing format
Chungy
the only downside, sftp is not supported by default
this is making me curious actually when I think about it
Chungy
Windows 10 includes OpenSSH now. Do they still not use it for Explorer integration? That seems like a rather obvious thing.
Chungy
I don't have Windows 10 anywhere so I can't see for myself xD
