Longene was built off of merging the ReactOS kernel into the Linux Kernel and using a modified version of Wine to allow for a native interface but was sadly abandoned 5 years ago.

I would love to see the spirit of Longene project revived by the ReactOS team pooling their resources with the FreeDOS project and possibly one of the BSD Unixes.

the license (reaetOS is GPLv2, Wine is LGPL 2.1), the fact that only one project is reimplementing the NT kernel and driver model, preferred programming languages (Wine = C, ReactOS = C++)
