At the moment C is far more relevant in embedded. If you want to work on embedded devices, learn C and learn its pitfalls. On many devices you still need a good understanding how to do memory management correctly

Another problem is debugging C++ firmware. Debugging normal C firmware can be hard enough^^

Well if you decide you write firmware in it for embedded devices. Debugging firmware written in C++ tend to be harder to debug than firmware written in C. In embedded it's often good to clearly think about if you really need something, or if you're able to avoid it.
