Carry on there :)

there is no factual basis for believing in god
I am atheist but don't care if someone believes
Anonymous
I just think that is stupid
BinaryByter
Neither do I
but I like debates
BinaryByter
they are a lot of fun

Keeping this chat on-topic will help quite a bit

in case anybody needs good music to code to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zdLfPN6F-o
BinaryByter
btw: listen to it not as music but as a music-theoretical standpoint

Welcome

Hello 👋
Mike
And b?
Mike
Put capo and capb.

Dudes
BinaryByter
In cpp, what indentation and formatting style do you use/prefer and why?
BinaryByter
I use tabs for line indents (because you can easily indent by big amounts in fast speeds) and i format with a space around each operator
tyoc213
The one that comes in the editor
BinaryByter
Lol 😂
BinaryByter
Google
I asked about you, not about tde general consensus
BinaryByter
It was a try to get a debate going
olli
Most editors support converting tabs to spaces, so there's no speed difference at all. Use whatever you like. A simple script can convert them anyway before commiting you code. Spaces have the advantage to produce the same look on every system
BinaryByter
Arent tabs faster on compile time?
klimi
Or spaces
klimi
I don't remember
BinaryByter
Lol 😂
klimi
XD
klimi
I have it in config
klimi
So I don't worry about it
BinaryByter
not noticeable
Well depends on amount of code
klimi
I think they are ignored
klimi
Same as comments
olli
don't agree, more code results in more work for the compiler.
olli
more type deductions, more optimizations
olli
i think the difference will probably decrease
BinaryByter
I think they are ignored
They are, but the lexer stilr sees them and has to decide what to do for each one
klimi
Hm
klimi
Okay
klimi
So it would be slower then
klimi
By 3 chars
BinaryByter
It would
klimi
Per tab
BinaryByter
By 3 chars
For each tab
klimi
Yes
BinaryByter
1cmp is +- 20x slower than an addition
olli
still probably each benchmark result would be within the margin of error
Kelvin
I spent lot of time indenting stuffs and then started using clang format. End if story.
BinaryByter
1cmp is +- 20x slower than an addition
How long does one addition take? @QNeko
olli
depends on your hardware..
BinaryByter
Yea thats right
BinaryByter
How many cpu cycles?
Kelvin
1+1=2
Kelvin
Took 3 secs
BinaryByter
1+1=2
2+2=3-1=4
BinaryByter
What is clang style?
Auto indenting by vsc
BinaryByter
Thats why i love vsc
klimi
Mhm
klimi
That means what?
klimi
Auto indenting?
BinaryByter
It forbats for you
Kelvin
What is clang style?
You can set custom style.
