The issue seems to lie in implicit conversion, as you pointed out. I asked Gemini AI, and it says use explicit conversion, which I did. Now, the compiler isn't complaining about anything.
It does seem like a logical solution. But what do you think about it? (Don't mind the crazy idea of having an array of multiple types)
P. S. As to not confuse readers, I just gave up and used a string literal to solve the issue, i.e. L"a". My goal was to use as minimum resources as possible to get even a slightest performance gain. But it feels negligible in the end, or as of now.
