according to ISO 9899:
every byte must have unique address,
adjacent bytes must have addresses different of exactly one unit (address of next byte to a byte with address 1234 is a byte with address 1235),
every byte must have at least 8 bits (there might be implementations with 9-bits in bytes, but C is not supported in implementations with 7-bits (or less) in bytes)
