Well, those look like the old keyboards that used to be huge. But I have nothing to compare with, so maybe I'm wrong.

Yeah, same here. That's why I'm still using a 10 years old laptop with US keyboard ?

Sure there's no diff between rubberdome and a shitty notebook keyboard but on a proper mechanical keyswitch you need proper keycaps because of the longer key travel. It's also easier to type on proper keycaps because you can feel them blindly

Mechanical keyboards were those of the 80s, right? Well, those are the ones I hate. It's a pain to type on those things. It requires me double effort to push every key. No, I like soft keyboards where typing is almost like caressing them.

I can confirm this. I often mess my keyboards and cleaning them was a matter of tapping, gently blowing and taking off some caps (and placing them back afterwards ofc).

It helps because the label is what wears off the most time on keyboards or it just gets nasty over time with burn marks because people are idiots and smoke in their offices. Replace the upper keycaps and that board is fine for another 20 years

Stabilizer? Where? What is that? I'm getting lost...
Flat Notebook keyboards have a lot of wobble because the rubber dome is in the middle of the key. In order to make the key press feel the same from the sides as it feels in the center, a metal stabilizer is inserted that distributes the force

I know, I broke a netbook keyboard twice. But it was an OLPC netbook so I just sent it to the official service and got it working again.

And learn how to clean and repair keyboards meantime.

Keycaps can get nasty for lots of different reasons. Body fats, food on your fingers, Coffee drops etc. On the double keycap solution cleaning such residues off is easy, just take the upper keycap off, it's simple, you don't need tools for that, they are just clipped onto, put it in some soapy water, dry them, done.

Meruso

Modern mechanical keyboards don't have this solution anymore but you don't need it because ALPS style switches and Cherry MX switches don't expose any mechanics if keycap gets pulled

tactile, MX Tactile Grey is heavy and tactile, Clears are a bit heavier than browns but a lot more tactile. Whites are heavy and clicky, greens are heavy and clicky but they feel different from whites, blues are lightweight and clicky

There are reds which are linear and soft, they are really silent, blacks are heavy and linear and silent. Linear greys are really heavy and linear and silent

Some people say: Linear reds/blacks for gaming Clears and Greens for Writing Blues for mixed use and for your grandpa, Browns

Well, in the countries I lived in so far it's forbidden to smoke in offices or other closed areas, so I don't see that problem anymore. I don't smoke myself and although my housemate does, he's clever enough not to do it over the keyboard. Besides that, none of my keys labels had time to wear off. Actually I don't remember a keyboard without its labels on.

In Germany there's a program to reuse computer and other electronic devices that work perfectly to send them to schools that lacks the resources to buy them by themselves. In UK, or at least certain parts of Birmingham I saw places where you could throw your plastic and electronic waste for recycling.

If you press a rubberdome key down, at some point you feel a 'bump'. This is tactile feedback, you know the key has actuated and the letter appeared. On mechanical keys you can choose which feedback you prefer. Both audible and tactile feedback work for humans. Clicky keys do an audible click instead of or combined with being tactile. The legendary old IBM Model M13 keyboard manages to do both in a manner that you really don't miss any inputs. It's legendary, old, loud and heavy though. Linear means no feedback at all, useful for gaming because they are silent and you can smash the keys easily without any bump.
