i3wm is one of these that I call "unfinished". I mean, it's a great window manager, but I am too fscking lazy to set up every time, set up a panel, get something to display a wallpaper, set up xscreensaver, power management, make sure nm-applet is present and so on

Want a rock-stable server system lasting you 10 Years of support?
Centos
Want the newest Features or a Desktop System? Fedora
Centos doesnt hold up as Desktop well tough

And fares poorly, especially with its outdated components

linux
06.05.2017
22:11:30
Fedora is testbed and can break and is much more agile ( 6 months releases, 13 months total support) Centos is the entreprise/rock solid 10 year total support ( + 1-3 months of last minute upgrade tiem normally reserved fro RHEL customers)

Tobias?
06.05.2017
22:12:02
But Centos does ship with outdated af Gnome, has very very old Kernel Feature Support ect.

Michał

well, if you're going to support a big office full of office workers that are going to use libre office 8 hours/day and want no trouble, then I would argue that centos is the way to go

Tobias?

But not as single Desktop User

maybe installing it in a virtual machine for a start would be a good idea, then you may just install whichever you want, check it out and switch if you don't like something
I would recommend Fedora as well
CentOS - you won't have to do any risky upgrades for the next 5 years, but everything will be pretty old
Fedora - do the (really easy) upgrade once a year + small upgrades every a few days and you're set

Tobias?
06.05.2017
22:22:59
And if you want to learn Databases a recent version is always good
Like mariadb, postgres and redis

so, I guess Fedora will be convenient enough, while also quite fresh

You can, if you didnt add many thirdparty repos, update your system seamlessly
Altough some of use have opted for the "clean slate" approach and have written scripts to just reinstall all the apps for them each new version instead, making it easy and fast to setup a clean system fully new.

I know systemd gets a lot of hate, but I find that it's simplified my Linux "experience" quite a bit.

I've used UEFI and GRUB together before, but it's a pain to maintain
After a while you remember the commands, but it's a waste of time

But is it support muli-boot, i. e. Fedora, Ubuntu, and Windows
I am fine with systemd

Paul

03:11:19
I'm not sure; I usually use separate devices for each platform. When I multi-boot, I tend to stick to GRUB.
You just have to be sure you maintain it
If you take the time and go through all the documentation, you can get some awesome customizability with significant performance and usability benefits, but it takes a lot of time.

If you bothered to read the whole thing, you'd see that I said it works. ;)
However, if you're patching the kernel yourself or doing anything fancy like that, it gets to be a real pain.
