It's your perception because it's inevitable that you will be infected with adware viruses in MS windows

So you don't see it as difficult task?

Difficult, of course. But impossible? No. Also you say "you don't want", no "you can't"

you can't say it's impossible until you die trying :P

The rest of times you'll keep trying and eventually succeed

Excuse me sir, it's hard not difficult Every developer at some point would find himself need to get his hand dirty with sysadmin stuff IMHO.

Also, at this point we were talking about "learning to much stuffs" so I'm not sure about the context of your comment
Let's call it "enough stuff" to be a good developer, build the application and deploy it Assigning the whole workload to one person may be insane but having these many skills makes the developer in a huge demand, braides small companies tend to hire ppl who wear many hats

Michał
05.05.2017
12:36:39
Of course ? but trying to reduce this stuff as much as possible
IMHO replacing bash (where most questions are already answered) with python (which is practically not used as a shell) is going to make everything harder, not simpler

you can still use python to write scripts, even if bash is still a default shell

I can recommend fish as a bash alternative, but keep in mind that it's not 100% compatible with bash, so scripts are written differently

many people also like zsh

I love zsh, it makes my life easier as user. But for sysadmin, bash is solid as a rock

that completion

that syntax highlighting

I'm sure you'll see the only true path sooner of later, which is, of course, having fish as your one and only shell of choice

bash seems so... obsolete by comparison

Michał

yeah, I do ?

okay the webserver is overdoing it, I have to admit that one

that simple text config would be more than sufficient

It's kind of awesome to see that you need community support TBH

Michał

I have to admit that with fish I had to check out the documentation two or three times, other than that it's simply user friendly enough

Eduard
05.05.2017
12:54:10
I *need* wat
What's the problem using something with "next to 0 community support"?

I don't need more autocompletion that the one in bash, and my console it's not a text editor to have "syntax highlight"

天荣

No problem, it's just worse if you find bugs, and etc, because it's less likely to get fixed, and you'll get less answers in Google

Also harder to tune, etc

my point is, I use fish to execute commands, from time to time to run a small loop

Michał

anything more complicated - bash, python, ruby, whatever

fish is a launcher for me, and it's damn comfortable one

things like you can write a middle of old commands, press up and it will search the history

small but comfortable things

wouldn't really write scripts in it though, for reasons @Rustiful provided

it wasn't that much drastic in my case, though I wasn't able to install libreoffice at night, but some other websites worked okay so I doubt it is a bigger issue

zsh has all that and much more TBH
I'm 100% sure zsh is more powerful, it's just... fish effortlessly gives me functionality which is cool enough to make me like it and not feel any incentive to check zsh out and configure it

Well, right now I'm trying to upload a picture of less than 2 megas to WordPress and it's completely impossible. Days ago, some websites like Google or Facebook were giving time out. In any of the three computers at home, so I wondered if this could be a more general problem, maybe EMEA or just Germany.

Or maybe not. may be it's just the provider.
