Also about the focus follows mouse: I really recommend you to try it, if you get used to it it really helps you to keep the context you're thinking about instead of having to look whether the window you've switched to is the one you're thinking about; keeping the hands on the homerow makes sense if you're mostly writing, but in my case I do more thinking than the actual writing, so... ;)
