If a bug is discovered (which was the case only recently) then Telegram Desktop is not automatically patched by a system update of Fedora. You have to wait until Telegram realizes the problem, updates their openssl, repackages their Linux clients and then sends out an update notification to you.

That's good to know

Compare that to having a natively compiled package which uses your system's openssl. One dnf update and you're on the safe side again.

Glad I was able to convince you. That's not the only thing they bundle, by the way. They also pack in ffmpeg, libxkb and some more libraries that I don't know, but openssl was the most critical one of those.

I think the developer just doesn't know Linux very well. And in Windows, it's common practice to bundle libraries into software.
