Does she write and read from DVDs frequently?
@buredoRUNofthecyborg Yeah, CD/DVDs are essential. A lot of old photos on CDs we want to import

I put 16GB in there but admittedly, 8GB probably fine
My laptop has 8 GB and I do coding and web development they do great.. you can buy another stick later down the line if you really need it, make a 4GB SWAP from SSD that's what I did

Ah okk, it's just not the first choice you usually pick in 2018, that's all

Also the SSD? There are high end laptops in India that come out without SSD, and can perform basic tasks reasonably even with 4 gigs RAM
@buredoRUNofthecyborg I wanted to get a tiny SSD (75GB or larger) for the boot partition, so it's at least a snappy start-up process.

My mother has always had ridiculously slow computers so I sort of wanted to speed up the boot time :P

@buredoRUNofthecyborg Even me, I'm old-school because I still go to local record stores and buy CDs to rip to my collection ? Except my current ASUS internal DVD/BluRay bay is defunct because the button doesn't open the tray…

No.. SSHD isn't really so much worth it they've like 8GB flash and make little advantage

You're gonna put fedora on there, right ?
@buredoRUNofthecyborg I was trying to decide between RHEL and Fedora. On one hand, Fedora because it's updated, modern, and sleek, but then I also have to think, who is actually going to do system upgrades?? Probably me… so maybe RHEL for easier long-term maintainence

It's been a completely useless junk for my usage so i havent really figured out how exactly works but Ive seen many people reporting its pretty fast with loads. And yes like those devices.

Justin

I planned to do the same thing I am doing for my current desktop. Put the LVM root partition on the SSD and the home partition on the HDD.

@buredoRUNofthecyborg I have a couple free RHEL license from my university that last even after I graduate. So I figured I would do RHEL just to play around with it and also have some packages available from secondary repos not in CentOS

@SidSun I found AMD's graphics drivers, but as I've learned, just because the manufacturer carries drivers does not always mean they're reliable…

@SidSun If you find anything out, please let me know!
