In Poland using pirated SW is less popular because of piracy checks
So you're saying that when you use SW for commercial purposes, you undergo a piracy check?

We got strict anti-piracy laws, but Russia is the country when nobody gives a s*it on it. My neighbors connect their electricity line straight to main line without an electricity counter to pay for electricity not at all

In us or Netherlands you must pay the insurance company, so technically there is no free medical care. In other countries there is a free medical care and paid one. In some other there are paid 1st level doctors and free hospitals

That too, but as long as internet exists, there will be piracy
Quoting from wikipedia: Piracy is an act of robbery or criminalviolence by ship- or boat-borne attackers upon another ship or a coastal area, typically with the goal of stealing cargo and other valuable items or properties.

I don't think so, if you use free software you will be good, if you pirate, than it's your own fault
Free open source software that is not controlled can be manipulated too. Although 99% of the cases it's safe.

Have never really heard of people pirating Linux software

Like someone with bad intentions, writes a malware code and hides it deep in the software, if no checks are done and it is pushed to the end user, that may be it

Well if you use the software provided by the distribution repository, you should be good, but ofc nothing is 100% but it really doesn't matter if Linux has more market share IMO, don't forget Linux has the server market

I don't entirely agree with this. An open source business model is possible to work in and profit from. Red Hat is the clear example, but you also have companies like SUSE, Canonical, and a good share of a few others (not just Linux providers) that make a profit "selling" free software.

Yeah, Linux got the server market, but it will take some more time to enter the desktop world
I'm also convinced this day is never coming. I think it passed 16 years ago was when we had the opportunity. I doubt there will ever be a Year of a Linux desktop. On the contrary, we have it on our phones and mobile devices and I think this is where we should spend more focus. But it's equally difficult when carriers and manufacturers manipulate the platform as a tool to create a vulnerable platform that makes a device susceptible to viruses so people will upgrade sooner.

The profit I believe would still not be the highest compared to closed source software companies, since they got the right to the code and can do whatever they like, also as I said, it's not necessarily like that, that's why I said many people, not everyone

Linux itself may be secure, but it's possible to have secure things that are set up insecurely (see: Android).

I see what you mean. But I'm not sure… the proprietary business model is the most prominent because it was there first, and it was based off the idea of a closed culture. But it's an interesting thought if more companies defaulted to the "Red Hat way". I don't think proprietary software is inherently the most profitable way to develop, but I think it is right now because we (people) have made it this way.
