Simple Solution: i dont hibernate - i lock when its docked/powered and poweroff when its not.

It looks like basically an external cheap graphics card, I would expect problems and not expect 3D acceleration unless you know the chipset inside is compatible with Linux

Personally, I would look for a docking station for your laptop with additional outputs, if such thing is available
