It is true too.
Abhi
Remember when i wiped my rc.conf, i came to ask the same thing i was on xorg. So true its not those

Hi. Did you make any progess on this?
polyduekes
Hi. Did you make any progess on this?
yup, it was a missing MAP_32BIT flag in a memory block reserve function so the reserve was being created with 64 bit pointers
polyduekes
polyduekes
Great. Is it on ports?
no, i am still in the process of writing a port for it
Abhi
What are you gonna use this for ?

Hello friends, I'm currently analyzing FreeBSD and at the same time working on improving my programming skills. I've chosen the FreeBSD project out of personal interest. Right now, I'm analyzing libc, and I've studied and compared the strlen and strnlen functions in order to implement them in my own operating system. strlen is architecture-dependent, and is split into 32-bit and 64-bit versions for systems like x86_64 and x86. It has a relatively complex structure and performs word-by-word scanning. In contrast, strnlen is implemented in an extremely basic and simple way. It is neither optimized nor fast — its only standout feature is safety. I wanted to ask: Why wasn't strlen implemented like strnlen? Is it because you can’t impose a length limit like maxlen when scanning word-by-word? Meaning, since strlen uses word-by-word checking, is it technically not possible to implement a size constraint like maxlen?
Mahdi
Why did you changed the font?
It has become like this by itself.
Abhi

Intresting, i wonder how.

Does the FBSD have a specific problem with the touchpad? I'm buying a laptop to install FBSD on. Is the problem with FBSD itself or Wayland, xorg, etc.?
Divan
That would heavily depend on which laptop you buy

I wonder how long FreeBSD will be able to ship Gnome
Andrei Drusian
because newer versions of gnome are tied to Linux's systemd.
Abhi
Why are they doing it drusian? Is there any actual benifits even? It works currently and works well, what's the point of systemdmaxing in gnome?
Pouria
I still don't understand the whole point of systemd existence. Let alone gnome dependency on systemd.

there is a talki about systemd by a fbsd dev at the time called "the tragedy of systemd"
accelerat0r 🇮🇱 🇮🇱 🇮🇱
I kind of relate to that in a positive way !
Artel
systemd is good at solving linux problems, in linux. primary concern was hyperscalers weren't being satisfied with shell scripting
Abhi
I am using fedora currently, and learning systemd a bit. It's pretty cool. But not needed at all.

I know right. Rest everything seems like a cope to me. I have used artix for like 7 years it's a good distro but now i realise at that point using bsd systems is just superior.
Abhi
I am using fedora just because the android-tools port is outdated in the freebsd and i get issues in it. If someone can teach me how to update that would be very good😊
Abhi
I have read the ports guide on how to do it but I have skill issue currently and just need to get stuff done 😕

I'd argue that it's NixOS but Fedora I would put in an easy second. Debian is also really good but newer versions won't boot on my laptop.

NixOS is making simple things harder while providing great abstractions over just systemd. Debian is pointless as end system but good if you're building your solution on top of it

Debian comunity is too much politics too.
They indulge a lot in things that they dont neccesary have resource for. Red Hat does have these resources. Debian isn't, being operated by volunteers only

100% fedora comunity is much more tolerant towards other perspective is what I observed. They do still are leftists but they won't ban you if you say you use xlibre for example. But in the end there should be no politics in tech in my opinion, I do not care personally.

not to start off a religious war, i am interested from a technical perspective how else would the problems mentioned there would be solved without the troubles of maintaining init scripts, hop on the offtopic chat in any case, this doesn't fit here

i don't have lot's of time so i just took a look at the first one and the post answers it as to why systemd needed to be more then just an init system
