hmm, can you explain more?
for instance, which file manager do you use on FreeBSD?
Maxim
I, for one, use KDE5's Dolphin
Maxim
or sometimes something rather
polyduekes

yes i agree not to integrate to file manager but a separate utility in and of itself

again: some people would prefer to not have any GTK (or Qt for that matter) apps on their system

then they can not use it, ports are made that way, no one need to install every port ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Maxim
I'm not saying that wouldn't be okay or necessary or amazing, but there are inherent problems to it
nami
for me a non gui toolkit for managing automatic snapshots would be even more handy since i mostly use automatic snapshot on non gui servers. there has been a lot of times i had to rollback to a snapshot of a jail and automating the process imo can even reduce the chance of human error because of manual typing of commands
Maxim
no, there is not
I have just explained it in detail
Baron

why? some people are not going to use it, so what? do you use every port available to you? or you pick the ones you need?
Maxim

some people aren't gonna use it, so you can't make it the "default" app like Solaris did
Maxim
you can, however, use a very minimal graphic toolkit for it
Maxim
bectl it is a default app, but a lot of people use beadm
it's not an app, it's a tool, but yeah
Baron
I'm using app as a short term for application

Is it common for weird video glitches on the intel video driver on FreeBSD? I've had it with every intel video hardware
nami
polyduekes
probably with only specific intel hardware

Does it worth to update STABLE every second week for patches? Or evey month is enough?
Tyler
I check every day
So git pull should not take much time then. Not much difference i guess in one day. 🙄 For me this is like archlinux updating style. 😁

like (somewhat) recently invited "stable weeks" for -current — check for release cycles, update accordingly. once per month as for me is usually enough

What package similar freebsd? https://pastebin.com/EAZB8C7y
SludgyWitch
i got multiple displays work on freebsd
SludgyWitch
one of them through hdmi and the other through DP, tho i can't seem to get any sound from the hdmi connection (even if cat /dev/sndstat shows the hdmi output) so i kinda worked around this using my external usb soundcard lol
SludgyWitch
cause i got no time anymore to troubleshoot this pic as proof
SludgyWitch
excuse the cable mess, i was lazy dealing with cable management :D

may someone help me with hplip on freebsd? I have laserjet 4 pro. When i do hp-setup, the device discovery window pops up but does not allow me to check the Parallel port (LPT) box for some reason.
Vedrovid
BAck in the days i used to get this printer to work over cups, but it acted weird. i was not able to resize the print job. It was always over the whole page.
Maxim
does the laserjet 4 pro actually work with hplip?
Vedrovid
well, there is a driver.. I never did it so I have no idea. Maybe i could try it on linux just to check it. Ive heard its easy to set it up on linux so I may try that just to see.
Vedrovid
its ok if i set it up with cups too, but i had priblems in the past... As i said, the printer always printed the documents over the whole page on any setting.. Even if it was a tiny picture... I have no idea why...

I think a lot of people really liked NixOS until it basically imploded.. I've heard a lot of people talking about how their philosophy was just "right".. until "the purge" or whatever you call it

NixOS is still good. It was a bunch of Nazis who were upset they couldn't bring their bigotry into the community and had a hissy fit about inclusive policies.

It never effected the quality of the distro

Has anyone tested ZFS recordsize of larger than 1M?

I tried 8M on movie’s dataset and ARC performance was affected
