Best thing about bsd license that's it's has no peoblem with any license Also Bsd don't use systemd😁
"Best thing about bsd license that's it's has peoblem with any license" ?

"Best thing about bsd license that's it's has peoblem with any license" ?
it's a paradox. if it has a problem with any license then it has a problem with itself. licenses shouldn't have problems with themselves so it's a bad license
swodig
i feel like a philosopher now

i feel like a philosopher now
Guys I mean no problem

I edited but i think you get the point its compatible with all licenses

I have no fundemental hate problem with systemd. It's just a collection of separate tools that work together. I don't find it super bloat either. For people in the linux community, well there's people that can be considered toxic everywhere you know.
Badugar
I was reading about systemd. Was trying to figure out why some people hate it. In the end of an article the author suggested to move to bsd to solve the problem
Some problems with it: - It provides solutions for already existing tools, although optional - It resorts to some strange defaults, e,g. defaulting to 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 for DNS, hello Google - Instead of following the KISS principle, doing one job and that one well, it does a lot, partly mediocre - The authors claim something like "GNU/Linux is the only true operating system"
XS
technically all parts are implemented as separate programs
XS
I don't say it's better or anything
XS
I just say, stop spreading much hate about software you don't know and use
XS
that's pointless

Other subject: Has someone tried AoE on FreeBSD? freshports has the OOT kernel module
Badugar
AoE = ATA over Ethernet
XS
never tried, there's iscsi too
Hardcode

What's that? Is it a game?
XS
yah, famous game from microsoft games studio
XS
the best free alternative is 0ad, definitely a great game

Nearly every community has somebody toxic in it, yes
Yes but not 60 or 70 percent are toxic for example I use arch btw ubuntu for noobs read the manual
Badugar
never tried, there's iscsi too
I wanted to try something lower-layer first iSCSI is routable but has more protocol overhead
XS
there's also NBD then
XS
but dunno how it's supported on FreeBSD
Badugar
there's also NBD then
That works on the IP layer (I always forget the layer numbers and tasks...)
XS
It uses TCP AFAIK
Badugar
Might be
XS
Alternatively, sshfs and NFS provide excellent perfs nowadays
Badugar
NFS prob. more than sshfs as there's no encryption
XS
NFS prob. more than sshfs as there's no encryption
you can enable encryption I think on NFS, despite it stills very fast
XS
thanks to the cpu extensions

that's a good one

Every time I search for NFS, the engine assumes that I mean the game 😶

When I want to share a ZFS dataset via NFS on FreeBSD, do I have to run a command like exportfs? At least on my Gentoo Linux PC I have to do that...
XS
exportfs -ra
XS
after setting /etc/exports
XS
but dunno if that's the FreeBSD way
XS
it should be similar
Badugar
exportfs -ra
Didn't find that command last time I tried
🇵🇸🍉
Follow the handbook
What's different between it and funtoo
XS
Didn't find that command last time I tried
seems that's just service mountd reload

haven't zfs got autoshare feature? once the pool is imported it gets shared automatically (if set up to do so)

Im just average user, i dont know diferent of systemd and openrc

openrc is much like sysvinit, the same bash-based startup scripts
Δαρθ
well, not quite the same but similar

Freebsd have nice handbook

Nice guide to start learning os
XADE
actually there are som linux distros without systemd
Since they r distributions over OS Anything can be swapped including init But after doing that u r on ur own
XADE
Gentoo devuan mx
There r too many
XADE
openrc is much like sysvinit, the same bash-based startup scripts
Openrc exist on top of sysvinit, on some implementations

For new user sometime linux distro make headache to understand 😅 bcause the manual guide is outdate , also diferent distro have diferent rules, i think fbsd nice to start learning os

only things differing distros r - package manager & management - package versions - init mostly things r same other than that
