it's persian. i'm actually impressed to see so many iranians in every group
Yes, it would be better if they could talk English a little bit better

Does this look comprehend-able to you?
Anonymous
Ah, okay, thanks for clarification
Thanks for the immediate action

حاجی اینجا تبلیغ نکن، برو ببر یه گروه دیگه @n0madcoder is advertisement allowed ? This is commercial advertisement
its free and a free online conf in jitsi app not ads its just requesting to join to our community and activity about anything you can join and talk about free bsd too one of Fridays no mony in it than not advertising

Whatever, this is a freebsd group not a Linux one Plus I'm pretty sure docker doesn't work on freebsd because its deeply tied to Linux kernel features So you're advertising a conference for a software that doesn't even work on freebsd
Anonymous
not sharply just a linux lug.

Advertising is basically when you make something known to other people So YES, you are advertising, it doesn't have to have monetary incentives
Anonymous
not sharply just a linux lug.
Also your English is terrible
Anonymous
Anonymous
maybe yes I agree with you its advertising about a free open to all talk (all plus bsd users)
No its not about BSD and doesn't have to do anything with BSD. Stop trying to jam your conference down our throats

yes I agree my english is bad

It's a different approach on how an Operating system works. It have to fit your needs tho. You can read about why Linux is not the answer for most BSD users on this link: http://www.over-yonder.net/~fullermd/rants/bsd4linux/01
The mere fact that you're reading this proves that the world has, in fact, ended. If it hasn't, then just between you and me, you really need to find something better to do with your time. well i can't complain :) great article though
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
Take a look at sound_hda(4) man https://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=snd_hda&sektion=4&manpath=freebsd-release-ports
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
You'll have to tweak something like hint.hdaa.0.nidXX.config="as=8...
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
Audio is tricky to master (at least for me)
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
That will help, yes
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
Whish I could do more. Here are the settings for a thinkpad with a mixed input for Jack. It may help: #__indicate headphone/speaker switch (seq=15) hint.hdaa.0.nid21.config="as=1 seq=15 device=Headphones conn=Jack" #__enable mic recording (14 should act as multiplexer, 15 is mix) hint.hdaa.0.nid26.config="as=3 seq=15 device=Mic conn=Jack ctype=1/8 loc=Left color=Black misc=8"

He is no more in this group, barely joined yesterday and started selling Linux + Docker

oof. There is definitely something wrong with these kind of people

You need to pm me first sadly, I can't pm

You don't have nonsense like gpg, etc running in system level

Overall, BSD security is not really quite there yet
Anonymous
But
Anonymous
Hardenedbsd is a thing
Anonymous
Hardenedbsd security is comparable to that of what windows has to offer
Anonymous
But with linux you don't even get that option
Anonymous
With linux you must pay $200 to grsecurity and still your userspace is not secure, etc
Anonymous
With hardenedbsd at least you can be sure everything is secure to a certain standard
Anonymous
This is BSD's approach to verifying packages https://www.openbsd.org/papers/bsdcan-signify.html
Anonymous
And they've done it so well, I was able to rewrite this in java in just a day
Anonymous
Same thing on linux? The standard would be such a mess that I'd take months writing it
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
And they've done it so well, I was able to rewrite this in java in just a day
I used to be told to read OpenBSD's source code to get good coding practices yeah
Anonymous
See, problem is that you can never remember 10000 things to do for every line of code you write
Anonymous
It's better to just have a language that won't let you mess up
Anonymous
Like rust
Anonymous
You might have felt the same reading the document
Anonymous
That's just not possible for programs of a large enough scale
Anonymous
BSD has a far saner userspace than linux
yeah I liked the fact third-party software is kept in /usr/local is there any linux distro doing that?
Anonymous
With linux you must pay $200 to grsecurity and still your userspace is not secure, etc
since when did you have to pay $200 for a set of patches? also what guarantees that Hardenedbsd userspace is secure?
Anonymous
@n0madcoder @pr_asadi Hey guys, do you know any comprehensive article that compares security of FreeBSD with other OSes ? (Windows , MacOS , Linux, OpenBSD , etc.)
Anonymous
I have found few articles about the lack of security in OpenBSD, but i don't know whether it is right or not ! https://isopenbsdsecu.re/about/

@n0madcoder @pr_asadi Hey guys, do you know any comprehensive article that compares security of FreeBSD with other OSes ? (Windows , MacOS , Linux, OpenBSD , etc.)
I have little knowledge on security in general. I used to run computers without internet back in the day and I didn't worry at all about the security field, and nowadays my professional field isn't networking nor anything related with what is defined with security in computers. But maybe someone here can give you a hint (:

not the answer you're looking for, but let me say this security matters more on the guy who sits behind the keyboard than the OS itself if you don't know anything about security concepts and best practices, openbsd is useless with that said, what do you want to do?

This isn't really a comparison with other OSes, and is biased towards the negative side, but there's this: https://vez.mrsk.me/freebsd-defaults.html

openbsd and the whole of BSD also suffer from the lack of eyeballs on their code, but they also have the advantage in that since there are less people using them, not many exploits exist for them
Anonymous
both matter
Pouria
both matter
But the knowledge is more important.
Anonymous
But the knowledge is more important.
with an insecure OS doesn't matter how knowledgeable you are, at the end of the day its still insecure but it doesnt really matter because most mainstream OS's come with sane defaults
Anonymous
though some come more prepared than others

The problem is that less exploits reported doesn't mean less exploits at all 😢 I couldn't find any great journal in this case.
