When you perform a vanilla FreeBSD installation there are no packages installed at all. Setup may take more time but gives you the freedom to tailor packages to install

# touch usr/local/etc/doas.conf Using your text editor add the following line in order to get permissions for your user (make sure your user is in the WHEEL group): permit persist keepenv :wheel — If you don't want to find yourself typing your user password each time you need doas you can go in a more risky way by using nopass: permit nopass keepenv :wheel

Hi guys, i've installed freebsd on a kvm/qemu based virtual machine. I'm following the handbook. I've enabled everything, sddm, kde. I can start sddm from cli but when i try to login the only kde thing i see is the cursor and nothing else. Black screen. Am i missing something? Sorry for the wall of text

started my install around 1pm today and just off the pc 10 or 15min ago. it's now 8:50pm

Well the way of handling things and taking care to put a user in a group for him to be able to make this and that. I can say this is obscur to the desktop linux guy i am and to many linux guys too.

but no big deal, it reminds me of my 1st year with Linux, things where similar, not exactly but similar in certain ways
