seem like doas isn't coming by default and I have to install it
When you perform a vanilla FreeBSD installation there are no packages installed at all. Setup may take more time but gives you the freedom to tailor packages to install
The Uncle
how do i enable doas ?
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
💯
There are however, preconfigured FreeBSD "distro-like" systems like NomadBSD (not mine) and HelloSystem (thanks to neb to discover this one for me) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlPTVbhrKYM
The Uncle
i don't want preconfigured, I have Linux for that
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
how do i enable doas ?
# touch usr/local/etc/doas.conf Using your text editor add the following line in order to get permissions for your user (make sure your user is in the WHEEL group): permit persist keepenv :wheel — If you don't want to find yourself typing your user password each time you need doas you can go in a more risky way by using nopass: permit nopass keepenv :wheel
The Uncle
doing this make it like building your own ship

this walk is like going at war

The Uncle

The Uncle
I love the fact of the OS telling me : Man you are not allowed to do this ! then i remember to hit it on face with doas

Hi guys, i've installed freebsd on a kvm/qemu based virtual machine. I'm following the handbook. I've enabled everything, sddm, kde. I can start sddm from cli but when i try to login the only kde thing i see is the cursor and nothing else. Black screen. Am i missing something? Sorry for the wall of text
The Uncle
except mirrors lagging a bit, and some of those obscure way of doing things, i admit FreeBSD is cool.
asdf
have you enabled hald and dbus then added the user to the video group ?
The video group, and audio too, i forgot em. Thank you
The Uncle
cool !
The Uncle
started my install around 1pm today and just off the pc 10 or 15min ago. it's now 8:50pm
The Uncle
What you find obscure? (just curious no pun intended)
Well the way of handling things and taking care to put a user in a group for him to be able to make this and that. I can say this is obscur to the desktop linux guy i am and to many linux guys too.
The Uncle
but no big deal, it reminds me of my 1st year with Linux, things where similar, not exactly but similar in certain ways
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
Ow, yeah, things in BSD are kinda "lower level" hehe
The Uncle
and lower level is good

Me too, it's the reason why why I stepped back from Windows being my daily driver and switched to linux

I enjoy reading the Phoronix comments when there's talk of *BSD 😂

Typical linuxy comment: "Permissive licensing: writing code that can be stolen by a company which doesn't give anything back!"
kub-kun
Linux source code is being raped by ms bcs of their license
Krond
Ironic. Companies are using GPL now to lock the code rights.
Krond
MySQL?
Krond
Some even use affero, which is imo quite toxic to business.

Anyone using bmon in fbsd?
