It's meant as ... connection to the ones already using the IRC chat. Why shouldn't you be allowed to post in a chat??!

"Channel" does not imply not being able to "post" — IRC channels allow anyone to speak, by default. our #reactos-dev channel has been configured to require permission, on purpose, to avoid unnecessary offtopic conversations when people are trying to talk dev stuff. plenty of people are interested in READING regardless, so they join but don't ask for voice

I will modify the site description(now out of home). Seems Telegram defines "channel" as a just echo and followers can't reply back, a monodirectional way. i dont know how on hell they can define a channel like that (when a channel has been always a place to talk). Aaanyway...I will modify that to avoid misunderstandings with Telegram users.

I guess telegram uses "channel" as tv/radio channel rather than what IRC used it for. Most other chat systems use "group" or "room" for it (unlike IRC)

I suppose IRC took the meaning from the amateur radio systems, or walkie-talkie type things, which also have "channels", but are open for speaking (bidirectional)
