You should test only provided image. And do not try to liveUSB boot with it. It should be tested via CD/DVD
Alejandro Jeditobe
i tried this and it gave me bsod
We need debug log and more information
Alejandro Jeditobe
Bsod does not help
Alejandro Jeditobe
There is wiki article about it

ok i'll check

You will need a physical serial cable if you want to receive debug messages from a real computer through the serial port.
Anonymous
damn
Anonymous
I dont have that
Alejandro Jeditobe
I dont have that
You can get debug on screen
Олександр
It doesn't say with a USB stick though
Олександр
You can write the image onto a hard drive and install from it
Олександр
No.
Олександр
I meant a real hard drive
Олександр
IDE or ATA
Олександр
I agree, that sentence is somewhat misleading.
Олександр
I'm not sure about ATA
Anonymous
I meant a real hard drive
installed in pc hdd not like usb external hdd
Олександр
yeah

I agree, that sentence is somewhat misleading.
yeah i thought theyre talking bout usb drive too, misleading
Kirn
Support for AHCI
Олександр
Олександр
...although it's a wild guess.

i use laptops so i'll wait for the usb support

It's basically a SATA port with hotplugging support.
Kirn
That's eSATAp.
Олександр
Kirn
So why don't you go find it in that group?
Kirn
Regular eSATA doesn't have the USB port (or its 5V rail)
Олександр
Kirn
Their SATA parts are the same.
Yeah, that's true, but there's cables that wil llet you use the USB 5v for SATA power.
Kirn
whereas regular eSATA always requires external power
Олександр
Yeah, that's true, but there's cables that wil llet you use the USB 5v for SATA power.
hmm it seems they're also incompatible with the regular eSATA
Kirn
shouldn't be
Олександр
Still, ReactOS might install off such drive.
Олександр
I don't know if it works :P
Kirn
or rather, the eSATAp port works for eSATA stuff
Kirn
although the other way around
Kirn
I don't know if it works :P
Nothing fancy to it, it's just another SATA (internal) HDD as far as any OS is concerned.
Kirn
or even as far as the BIOS is concerned.
Олександр

It's better to test. I wish I could, but I've sold that laptop some time ago.
Kirn
Test?
Kirn
What testing?
Kirn
What would you specifically be testing for?
Олександр
Installing from external eSATA HDD
Kirn
... does internal SATA work?
Олександр
... does internal SATA work?
some controllers are supported
Kirn
Because the thing you need to keep in mind, there's no protocol differences, there's no interface differences, etc. eSATA drives are indistingusihable from internal SATA
Kirn
therefore the SATA driver will support both, or neither
Олександр
true
Олександр
But if it works it will be more convenient than a CD
Kirn
if the internal HDD can be used, then eSATA will work
Kirn
it's not special or separate
Олександр
I get it
Eris
So why don't you go find it in that group?
i wonder why he doesnt try himself
Eris
i'm not aware of reactos hiring slaves
Eris
Links will do, lol
Alejandro Jeditobe
I'm not sure about ATA
ReactOS supports SATA and AHCI
Alejandro Jeditobe
e-SATA HDD might work
But do not try to HotPlug
Alejandro Jeditobe
some controllers are supported
Actually lots of them, and more are coming with recent patch of UniATA
Олександр
if the internal HDD can be used, then eSATA will work
Actually sometimes there is a separate controller for eSATA, mainly on older machines and on eSATA external drives themselves.
Олександр
but this eSATA deal is quite exotic for me, I've never used it :P
