Google google 😬
Vsevolod
Imho it would be better to use ext
Vsevolod
with ext3 we could use reactos for REAL without fear of losing data
Vsevolod
this is essential

Cool :)

It is not impossible
Anonymous
It just needs developers willing to do such :)

Connor
It's dead idea on ntfs or ext
Connor
You need to go sraight to btrfs or other modern fs.
Connor
Just waste of time on ext fs migrating.
Jyrki
ZFS?
Jyrki
The CDDL is incompatible with the GPL though
Connor
ZFS?
Yep. It's the best one for now.
Anonymous
We can read and write btrfs
Anonymous
So just some has to make ReactOS able to install on it
Anonymous
Of course
Connor
Btrfs is Second best fs now
Anonymous
That is what I mean
Fo
TODAY
Connor
But you need to insert it in kernel.
Fo
we can incrementally upgrade ext
Fo
Apple devs presented APFS, and asked "so how would you use this-this and this features of our fs?" - well, nobody knows. it just should store files. be reliable and fast. thats it.
Connor
Man, no one needs any ext fs now. Everybody trying to get new fs.
When you'll complete your ext fs invention, everybody will think it's crap. .

Guys, this discussion goes nowhere...there are no filesystem developers available to make Ext2 bootable, nor btrfs, nor Ext4...so if you want to have them...you will have to provide patches. So cool, some of you can work in Ext, others in btrfs, and others in Zfs
Anonymous
And the best, ReactOS then would be able to boot in 5 different FS
Fo
Fo
lets rewind to discussion start
Fo
sorry for holywar
Fo
I was asking, why NTFS is really required for NT kernel and apps or not?
Fo
holywar wasnt accidential, sorry, no fs vs fs war, just trying to understand system-level differecies
Anonymous
OK
Fo
@Connoreika I am fully agree with you, btrfs is THE way for reactos. just want to replace FAT for something more reliable than non-journaling fs. btrfs may/should be added in future for sure
Anonymous
NTFS is the natural windows filesystem
Anonymous
Thats the reason it was choosen
Anonymous
I dont know how "picky" an app could be and refuse to run in EXT
Anonymous
But for sure it wont have any issues to run in ntfs since it was probably coded, tested and runs in Ntfs
Anonymous
Are there better FS out there? Probably. Is it much better than our bugged Fat? For sure
Anonymous
Can we live with NTFS while other devs develop bootable support for Ext or btrfs?
Anonymous
Sure we can, Win10 is still using NTFS so seeems it is not really really bad
Fo
so we have zero friction in adding ext?
Anonymous
There are no devs available to do that
Anonymous
Thats our only issue
Anonymous
With Ext or any other FS

Sound and WiFi was there for a while now, but not that stable
