But it can still work
Mike
Really? Good news so, this would expand the potential support 👍 thanks for pointing this out 😊
Chungy
heh UDF... the compatibility story gets worse since neither Linux nor Windows can write to newer-revision file systems, which means you have to scale back to something like UDF 1.0 just so both of them can write to teh same volume, and lose out some of the benefits in the process :/
Chungy
I've tended to use exFAT everywhere (yes, it works on Linux) :p
Chungy
likewise, contrary to the article, Windows 98/Me/XP is perfect capable of writing to UDF. Just need to make sure that file system revision is good for it
Quinten
Chungy
NTFS has problems related to the fact it has ACLs ... I can't tell you the number of times I've seen people struggle getting their files because their USB happened to be formated with NTFS, all coming down to whatever computer they were sitting at not having the permissions to read the files
Chungy
FAT32, exFAT, UDF lack permissions entirely.
Quinten
Chungy
yes
Quinten
It always worked for me but sure
Chungy
It could work if you're especially careful about what the metadata looks like
Quinten
I never pay attention and it still works fine actually
Chungy
or if you happen to just log in as the same user (via AD, for example) everywhere you plug the drive in
Quinten
I plug it in into Linux systems most of the time
Chungy
heh... ok. ntfs-3g by default ignores the ACLs
Quinten
lol
Quinten
Windows usually works fine too
Kirn
I have a folder "WIN31" which can be mounted as a C: in Dosbox with working Windows for Workgroups 3.11 and patches (IE5.5, Win32s, TCPIP32, etc.)
Chungy
heh yeah... Windows 3.x has been usable in DOSBox for a bit, but it still crashes sometimes
Chungy
especially if you do Win32S programs ini t
Chungy
I've segfaulted dosbox by running win32 freecell under Windows 3.11 lol
Chungy
but it doesn't happen consistently
Batnam
This is where I wonder what the point of ReactOS is?
Batnam
Why shouldn't we just use windows?
Batnam
I get it is a project you are working on, but why ReactOS over windows?
Kow
Free?
Batnam
Free?
You can get windows cracked
Batnam
Easily
Kow
But not if you have a enterprise.
Kow
You have open source too
Alisson
goodbye SVN, are his last hours
Batnam
No matter how much we want ReactOS to succeed
Batnam
Alisson
Git is the best

Reactos is based in which Version of nt?
Chungy
http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html
Kow
I mean, what version was reversed?
Chungy
Reactos is based in which Version of nt?
It's not based on Windows, it's a reimplementation. The kernel ABI is currently targetting NT 5.2, userspace hypothetically should support applications through NT 10.0 (but it's very incomplete for the post-5.2 ABIs)
Chungy
NT 5.2 was Windows Server 2003 (Vista was 6.0, 7 was 6.1, 8 was 6.2, 8.1 was 6.3. 10 is 10.0)
Alisson
Alisson

During that day (European time) SVN will be turned read-only forever and
some of our services may expect temporary downtime.
Let's see who will get the last commit ever to SVN :)
Andrey
Git and SVN are version control system, they both are opensource and international

there are 2 sides of this boat
Alisson
I'll download the version in Github and compile with RosBE to see what has changed
Stas'M
Btw, RosBE needs an update to GH
