I actually thought wine only works on linux core
"reactos is using parts of wine." reactos is also written from scratch, and is using (as stated ABOVE) parts of wine
Quinten
I actually thought wine only works on linux core
Wine is also available for, say, OS X
Kirn
or FreeBSD
Quinten
yep
Mike
Wine is a wrapper which translates windows calls to *nix calls. Reactos is a fully featured OS, natively binary compatible with windows

ok i get it
Anonymous
i was thinking about it long time

"tried to search", must not have tried very hard. https://www.winehq.org/download

Mike
OK, now let's look forward. Reactos must provide support for Windows system calls and api and everything else, while remaining legal. It is difficult to do and there are only a few developers, but they have done and are still doing great things
Mike
It is still incomplete, but it is starting to be usable. And it is already 10% faster than XP on the same hardware and very good on multithreading

I use cp/m. Very powerful os!
Mike
Let's be positive :) the more se spread the word, the more developers and testers we will find, the faster reactos will grow :)
Mike
*we spread

Noob question: If ReactOs is binary compatible with windows, then windows' viruses will and can infect ReactOs too, right?
Mike
It depends. If the one you choose uses system calls, yes. If it uses system bugs, no
Anonymous
Why can't it use system bugs?
Jesus
i tried infecting mine with cryptowall
Jesus
the one that comes as a .js file
Jesus
didn't work. reactos didn't know what to do with the .js
Jesus
i'd say you have a pretty good chance of running an .exe virus though

AFAIK there are no plans to change this, as software emulation is fast enough for pretty much everything DOS/Win16, and more portable.
