I agree with you here for most cases, but Wine cannot service any programs that need kernel drivers

ReactOS's kernel is compatible with the Windows kernel

React and Wine are about as good, and considering Wine doesnt have all the cruft of an actual OS it's generally better

so if Windows kernel drivers are needed, ReactOS is the natural choice

here's the thing

Wine doesn't run on just Linux

it supports Darwin (macOS), all the major BSDs, etc.

doing all that

would require brand new effort for every single OS that Wine runs on

the Mac port is the worst of them all for one reason

Wine is primarily designed to use the X Window System as it's display system

this is the native GUI system on Linux, all the BSDs, Solaris, others

on Mac OS, X11 is not

they use Quartz

so you either have a crappy X11 emulator (XQuartz) or you have an incomplete native driver (winequartz.drv)

there's also another problem

the Mac ABI is such that it clashes with the Windows ABI

which involves special hacks to work around

Still, apart from the need to interface with the kernel for hardware most can be implemented in user mode

and those hacks, if done correctly, will make Windows programs run extremely slow

i'm finally home at my pc (i hate writing from a smartphone). IMHO, good marketing is aimed at saying people that something is good enough for fitting their needs and worth the "price" (not only money, but also time and efforts). not "perfect", not "the best for everyone", which would be pretentious and misleading affirmations. but saying that something "it's ok and can work for your needs at a fair price for its specifications". i think reactos can fit the needs of much people, and i am one of these people. i don't care if it's not the perfect os, or the best os of the world, since i know it's still alpha. i think "we", as users, if we can't manage to help with depeloment, should aim at least at spreading the word and telling our friends. although i have different opinions, i really appreciated kirn's words. these are the words of a competent and caring man. but i want to be optimistic. yes, there will be a lot of "wannabe programmers" which really can't do much, but i think that if we manage to get at least the best 2 or 3 of them to really work for this project, maybe in easy things allowing our senior developers for harder parts, this could still help. all of this IMHO :)
