recently ive been feeling really quite shocked and angsty

because it turns out commercial software development

(can) produce extremely high quality products (that i may not personally enjoy one single bit, but im not the demographic) in quite a short space of time

tbh freerdp do a good job now of suppporting remoteapp almost perfectly but in their very freerdp "fuck using -'s for command line args" way have hidden this so well as to make it difficult even for an enthusiast to know it exists, let alone take part and use it

i actually use this. If you forgive the the GC and cgo overhead, there really isn't much that would mean you have to use a traditional 'proper' systems lang

admittedly it took some pretty aggressive, painstaking optimizing and configuring things at an OS level (tuning NICs is a bit of a pain but when you see what somebody who really understands this stuff, and has had the oppotunity to actually work with big pipes like this 10gbps+)

but i've had Go, using normal go 'sockets' and no fancy async stateless stuff a la zmap,masscan doing 6gbps worth of small HTTP+TLS requests all to different host

really precise config of ur NIC and kernel are the difference between <1gbps and 6gbps

and TLS was the ultimate bottleneck once i'd got everything else pacified

thats not including DNS ^^ which would be so cheating.

did involve PF_RING tho, which helps a lot even when its not in zero copy mode

omg who wants to earn some money and is actually proper, not a charlatan like me

something in the PF_RING api has obviously (subtly) changed in the several major versions that have come out since either tool was updated in this area

so I can send nice and fast in ZC mode

but the filtering has changed somehow because ive confirmed packets are indeed coming back

but for reasons i couldnt quite pin down is obviously dropped by the recv filter in both zmap and masscan

ive not spend much time on it (or rather, i took quite a bit of work to get to this stage, the API has also changed in some far more obvious compile time ways

and frankly configuing second routing table in linux is very much not a GUI driven proces...

people dont hand out 10gbps servers with 2 NIC and a network config that allows you to remain connected while the 10gbps NIC is offline (and firing packets at a rate that the internet mages have all agreed random people simply cannot be trusted with that kind of power, 14mpps is not a joke a all

it's like a western but instead of pistols imagine everybody is kitted out with a couple of nukes each

anyway, managing to convince the not-here-to-make-friends-or-offer-support-beyond-pressing-the-reinstall-button Quasi networks people agree to add the other NIC was a serious feat in itself

they'll sell 10gbps boxes to ur torrenty, streamy type people np

but when u ask for the config i have, they know exactly what you're up to and as i say for the same reason that walmart don't sell tanks or plastic explosives to people

anyway, a combination of charm, assurances that I'm not actually a person who needs to scan the internet at 14mpps for any reason beyond wanting to see it (and understands that 10gbps is something without the random IP iterator thing spreading the fucking deluge of packets over a suitably large area you very you're essentially a DDoS tool that gets around the need for lots of IPs by having machine guns instead of hands and crucially that in spite of their best efforts there are ASNs that aren't Cloud(flare) and actually in a really surprisingly large number of cases are relying on edge hardware that really does not react well to 10gbps worth of 64 byte packets. IPs don't matter when you're on fire.
