./pascal.sh
i just read it's now based on TrueOS since 18.10

It took me a long time to find out, you can't exactly do with it, what is described in the FreeBSD handbook. In that respect it is a (valuable) subset of FreeBSD.
Anonymous
This is very confusing. ixSystems has announced, there won't be TrueOS any longer.
Eliab/Andi
Almost. They use a different repo.
so let me say: on my HP with AMD ;500GB GhostBSD, 1TB maybe Win10 bc of gaming; on my spare lap - I could give it a try and replace the Linux OS with FreeBSD
./pascal.sh
yes true os development seems to have ended
Anonymous
They began another project: FuryBSD
Eliab/Andi
Sounds like a plan! 😊
keeping Win10 on 1TB partiition is for me only really pragmatic bc of gaming performance
Anonymous
yes
Eliab/Andi
They began another project: FuryBSD
it's also not a worth BSD
./pascal.sh
oh yes i've read about furybsd before
Anonymous
One shouldn't / can't use Win10 for ANYTHING except for GAMING any longer
Anonymous
biggest spyware ever produced
./pascal.sh
One shouldn't / can't use Win10 for ANYTHING except for GAMING any longer
I used Linux for a quite long time for even gaming wthout a problem
Eliab/Andi
actually I could ditch Win10; but there is EpicGames; Uplay and the shit isn't working atm properly on Win10 :D
./pascal.sh
since Vulkan and Proton and DXVK is a thing i see no use for Windows anymore
Anonymous
you can't believe whats inside a regular fresh win10 installation until you see a list with all the killswitches for their spy functionality deeply buried in their system
Anonymous
That brings many problems to people
./pascal.sh
I tested the game 'What remains of Edith Finch' and it worked well
./pascal.sh
and for steam games you have proton which works like native windows in most cases
./pascal.sh
I used wireshark and bettercap to actually see what was going on in my network when I was running windows 10
./pascal.sh
windows 10 actually tried to break into my devices using exploits and steal data from it
Anonymous

I tried that before. Worked not so well for me. Pumped GBs of Downloads into my steam app and had a lot of game instabilities
./pascal.sh
Eliab/Andi
so I have a great hours starting :D Project: "Get rid off Win 10"
Anonymous
can you visualize that data exploits of win10 somehow? I'm thinking of wireshark or similar programs. Didn't try out with 3 computers (Firewall, Windows10, Unix) before. I should, though.
Eliab/Andi
But one game I haven't managed yet to get run on Linux ; it's called "OMSI 2" - I get an error of missing 32bit dep

directx
Eliab/Andi
directx
yep maybe

Like I said before: I'm not too deep into WINE or similar. Tested it just for a couple of times and a few hours. Was always somewhat disappointed.
Anonymous
Instead, I focused on virtualbox.
Anonymous
better for working stuff. no gaming.
./pascal.sh
Like I said before: I'm not too deep into WINE or similar. Tested it just for a couple of times and a few hours. Was always somewhat disappointed.
Yes wine needs special tweaking to run good and even then it probably isn't that well But since proton the game really has changed a lot
Anonymous
Tested Proton on Linux Mint, AFAICR.
Anonymous
It did its job
Anonymous
but only with a subset of my steam games (which were capable of running in a Linux environment, of course)

but only with a subset of my steam games (which were capable of running in a Linux environment, of course)
Most of my steam games run on Linux with Proton. Some games have much better performance than on win10
Anonymous
continuing improvements - this is most likely a good description, what's going on here
./pascal.sh
I managed to run all my windows games on Linux Even the ones which hadn't official proton compatibilty support
Anonymous
Awesome
Anonymous
Does anyone know a good blog starting point in order to get the most out of such a proton trial?
./pascal.sh
thats cool
I even got Far Cry 5 running with working vehicle steering and that was a challenge And I have dishonored 2 running which was also quite tricky And all was running smoothly
./pascal.sh
I wish I could game again 😭😭😭

setup / tweaking / recommendations of proton

A year ago I heard sth very strange to be said by a computer admin/seller: he told me he wouldn't know of any single AMD/ATI graphics card older than 3 yrs. All dying....
Anonymous
Never read anything about it in a computer magazine

But I remembered my old Redeon 9800. It also didn't make it very long.
./pascal.sh
the nvidia card was not running super good but it was working
Eliab/Andi
Well, on my new HP 14 I've got AMD Ryzen 5 3500U, which is pretty nice tbh; my dell lap has an Intel HD Family card

Get a used GTX980 (4GB) or GTX1060 (6GB) - they are (still) very good in my opinion
./pascal.sh
But I want to wait till the end of the year when Amd big navi gets released Then I will get me a big navi with some Rzyen 7 4xxx
