Which desktop flavor do you want? Most supported ones are under X11, which can be full desktop environments like Mate or XFCE, or window managers like dwm or bspwm

oh freeBSD has a pretty simple installer. I recommended you to use UFS and there is WiFi auto config built into installer
kub-kun
use arrows to move around

Wanted to try XFCE and in the first place, I thought I could try a fork called Freesbie, but is no more distributed. So, better use FreeBSD
kub-kun
sure

get the disc iso, burn it to a usb, boot in uefi if you motherboard supports it and start playing
Mentally stable
you can still use ghostBSD
GhostBSD? Let's just make step by step 😅
kub-kun
its like Ubuntu for BSDs
the simplest BSD you could use
Mentally stable
its like Ubuntu for BSDs
Does it track you? 😂

Bad joke, I know

I...I would like to try it in VirtualBox
I would recommend you to actually install it. a virtualized environment is not a good source for deciding if you want it or not
Mentally stable
no no
Yeah, I know, cuz you know: That Amazon thing
Anonymous
@Nozomi89 get two usbs, one for the iso and one to install it on
Anonymous
perefrably use usb3.0

Oh well, I would really like but it's quite difficult for now. I have a dual boot with Fedora and a lot of files saved on it
Anonymous
@Nozomi89 just remmember after the install is done edit fstab manually and use the UUID of the disks
Anonymous
the installer for some reason uses device names instead of a unique identifier
Anonymous
its like Ubuntu for BSDs
no ,its not even remotely like ubuntu, I guess you meant " its everyones first experience of the BSD's "

Ok

Well, maybe I could really try GHOSTBSD first
In the comments, there were instructions about dual booting Linux and FreeBSD. Just try the Live version of GhostBSD from a USB 3.0 8 Gig or 16 Gig drive. With out installing. I have installed GhostBSD OS to a 128 Gig USB 3.0 and have compiled some other files. It works quite well.
Fred
look at rEFInd boot manager by Rod Smith. rEFInd can boot Windows, Linux, *BSD. via UEFI. Yes, your vbox guest additions would work just fine to use GhostBSD.

what are you exactly looking for in a BSD?
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
I also have to use Windows 😅 I would use it on VM cuz maybe I can do a better and more complete experience than a live. I would just need vbox guest additions
Try it under the VM for a quick test (: If you like it then consider installing it in a partition or spare disk, since things will likely work better out of the VM
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
or you know, like how I said to install it on a usb?
If on a USB, then could be better trying with NomadBSD?
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
what even is nomadbsd?
Live FreeBSD system meant to run on USB sticks with XFCE4 preconfigured

kub-kun
Cool. How about OS108?
it is based on netbsd but its preconfigured
Anonymous
netbsd has great hardware support too
I think it's more about running on every architecture that exists under the sun than supporting consumer grade hardware
Pouria
it is based on netbsd but its preconfigured
Yes i know. Is that better than NetBSD?
kub-kun
kub-kun
but easier to install
Fred
Which BSD is better and has better support for desktop? Except FreeBSD.
My biased preference is GhostBSD.org, but I read an article that someone liked ability to install OpenBSD.org to a laptop and it just worked.
kub-kun
oh I love openbsd
kub-kun
runs on my home server
kub-kun
and my vps runs on frebsd

All the option you wrote
then FreeBSD or HardenedBSD(an freebsd fork) should be your choice

and netbsd is great too
