mrphyber
it's a java program
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
mrphyber
in the default project at least there is a plugin declared in the gradle settings that keeps bugging me with unknown platform freebsd
mrphyber
and I think this plugin is mandatory
mrphyber
I nave no experience with this kind of stuff though
mrphyber
so, compiling doesn't work
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
Hmmm are you running it from the linux compat?
mrphyber
no, as it's a java program I tried my luck with openjdk on freebsd
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/handbook/linuxemu/
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
Try this way
mrphyber
if I recall correctly it's possible to create a debian jail, am I right?
mrphyber
in theory I could run this program in the debian jail and let it use X with xauthority
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
mrphyber
I think I'll give the jail a shot, otherwise I'll fall back to VM or in the worst of cases I'll use a live linux
mrphyber
cheers thank you
mrphyber
I see, maybe I should upgrade asap to 13 then

Looks like some linux users have a huge hate to FreeBSD😂 what a comment section jeez
Eliab/Andi
has anybody an idea for a brother printer mfc j 4620dw?
Eliab/Andi
:P how to get it run?
Andriy
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
But why?
Some people just want to see the world burns I guess
Andriy
Its like, ok linux has problems and bsd has it's problems lets kick each other 🤦🏻♂
Andriy
As far as i remember Linus told once, that if fbsd was formed a little earlier than he wouldn't even start linux 💁🏻♂
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
BSD is designed. Linux is grown.
My experience is that most Linux users are because they wanted an alternative to Microsoft Windows and BSD users are because they like how the system is build
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ

mrphyber
it's a shame that many developers don't consider freebsd as a modern os and as a consequence a number of libraries and programs are not compatible with freebsd
mrphyber
one example is chromium, afaik the dev team doesn't officially support BSD, and the porting team has to maintain their own patches
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
I have had to port some tools on my own. Maybe at some point I'll submit a port, but I need to learn about automake and such before

GhostBSD or NormadBSD are ready to use
Yes I will give GhostBSD a try. It is the same as using Arch by installing Manjaro or using Debian by installing. Telegram Desktop would be great and drivers for my Dymo-label printer.

Cool, its there. 💪
My pc is older. 3cores 4gb ram. Some Intel onboard graphics. So I stick to pkg installing. Instead of the ports.

How about drracket (plt-scheme) not in pkg but in freshports is it a problem to installing (some) extras by the port compiling?

Pochev
Hello, I'm a real noob about OS, I wanted to go on Linux firstly (I tried Manjaro and Void) and tried OpenBSD (but had a lot of issues).
Pochev
If I learn a lot about architecture, and some line commands about FreeBSD, and maybe buy a book about this OS, is it a good idea to go on it for someone who wants coding (C) and uses it as the main OS?
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
Pochev
As I like the "If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it" quote, I think FreeBSD could be really great.
Pochev
Then, I have to learn a lot now. Thanks a lot!

In My Humble Opinion
Pouria
