I think the main point of client-side crypto is that you can post encrypted data in public, and only the people that have the keys can read it

The only way to be secure is to to store personal stuff on a system that never touches any kind of network. Although, its still prone to physical attacks

On my new VPS, I can ssh in but I can't access any of the other services. I've set up nginx on port 80 and my browser can't connect, i've tried to set up gitea, temporarily running it on port 3000 but I can't connect. Anyone have any idea why?

But those are only possible with physical access, aren't they?

it all comes down to what attack do you want to protect against. Any off-the-shelf attack? updated system, full disk encryption, store data locally and don't do stupid things (installing random stuff) and you're pretty much safe, but if someone skilled targets you personally? good luck, have fun

Again, that's physical.
yeah, but the attacker himself/herself doesn't have to get the access to the machine

The way I'd do it is use USB MAC filtering. Each USB device has a MAC-style address so a USB device has to be on the authorised list for the computer to work with it

For a lot. They would have to break into the computer that defines the MAC list and allow their device on the list

Hi there, everyone. I've tried three times already to upgrade my Fedora 27 to Fedora 28, but always got with some problem that made me to rollback the upgrade (I had the images of my root and boot partitions before the upgrades). But first, I must tell that I use my home PC as a home-server, with SSH, mail and storage server. I use nextcloud for storage. The first attempt to upgrade seemed to work ok, but then I noticed that my nextcloud was not working. First I thought it was because of MySQL, because of some log I saw, but after rollback and upgrade again, it still wasn't working. After checking more deeply I found that the problem was that the version of nextcloud I was using, was very old, and didn't support the PHP version which comes with F28. Then I just had to upgrade the nextcloud (had to do it manually, and it was not so easy in the end), and thought "nice! now I can upgrade and everything's going to work OK. But, surprise! I upgraded again, and then my mail server stopped working. Checking the logs, I found that there was some problem with dovecot, so, I was receiving emails, but wasn't able to read them. I did rollback again, of course, but wanted to tell you people so you can know a pretty tale, and maybe somebody knows something that can be helpful to me if I decide to upgrade again...
