How can I update to Fedora 28 beta from f27?

Tobias?

Whaats the point of multiple iterations of that zeroization?
Oh almost forgot: even if you zero a hdd you can often reconstruct data from the bare platter from tiny magnetic field strength differences even if zeroed out. Add to that that modern controllers might write your data somewhere entirely else to save write cycles, especially on ssds and you'll find that the only real way to wipe data from drives is thermite and alot of drives in one container.

Or just always full disk encrypt.

same way you would for 26-27 but you change the release server to 28

It's a beta, so you may wanna think twice before using it on your daily driver.

Tobias?

So it's basically to remove hardware impact on data erasing. "Just to be sure"
Thermite? Yeah, its the currently best solution for permanent destruction.

wouldn't a nice fire be enough? the one that would melt platters :D

I heard about cryptofs (or something like that). It might be a good solution to protect certain directories

Lol. I agree. That yellow color is not comfortable for reading. Also this is programmed in rust language.

is there any shells that "remove layer" between local and remote directories so you can just "cd" to any directory on connected server from your machine?

Or it's just nfs auto mount thing on boot for example

Michał
04.04.2018
08:10:50
no idea about the automount though

Nick
04.04.2018
08:13:53
you can do the sshfs or something to mount these servers
Yeah, it's obvious to make a record in /etc/fstab or in /etc/profile (~/.bash_profile, etc)..

I do the nfs auto mount. That too on a local server. I have created a dir accessible through the file manager.

It's not needed. I just add entries to /etc/fstab which gets mounted on boot.

Tobias?
04.04.2018
08:22:47
No, unless its enough to melt the entire thing anyway at which point its easier for the average person to get some thermite.

While your password may go into swap in clear text in worst case. Why go half the way when you can just LUKS your entire drive?

Nick

Well according to S.M.A.R.T. my SSD has the worst erase count for a single block equal to 27.

I have been using it for 5 months and have already changed 3 operating systems.

Also health is reported at "100%".

Zero need to do so. Any non-chinese ssd will outlive its TBW factor by atleast double.

And 850pros, last time they were tested, did 2 petabytes written.

And they will announce if they are problematic long, looong before they die usually.
